Are you a new reader on this blog?
We are following a plan to read through the bible in one year. you don't have to worry if you fall behind or if you are starting late. Start at the beginning or, if you already started, pick up where you left off and follow along.
People just starting this goal often get bogged down in details, go slow, and eventually quit because it's to hard to reach the end. Remember that it doesn't have to be in one year. When you fall behind just keep going. As you get used to reading you will find yourself going faster and farther and may even catch up.
The first time I did this it took me over 18 months. The last time it took just over 2 months. This time I'm pacing myself to 1 year so others can follow along. Join the quest

I haven’t been on a scale in a couple of days but I was about the same weight as last week. Considering all that will be going on for the next week I can’t even think about dieting. On the other hand, as long as I remember to eat, I tend to do pretty well at controlling intake in the summer while I’m working so that I lose weight.

It’s amazing the damage you can do in a day. Easter Sunday involved donuts, ham, sweet potatoes, corn, cake, cookies, candy, and so on. I was on a good track and blew it in one day. Weighing in at 234.6#

On Monday I weighed in at 235#. I’ve been horrible at looking after my own health lately. My wife and I have both suffered from a short bout of flu like symptoms recently. Partly because we neglect health needs.
I have gotten the exercise more regular at around 4.5 miles a day. The illness has us both hydrating more which is good even if the reason is uncomfortable. Obviously I'm way off schedule for my weight loss goals but, I’m a determined to continue trying just as I continue trying to catch up with this blog which is still way behind and, at this rate, will likely be backlogged until after Easter.
As of today my weight is 231.6

The problem with falling behind is that it becomes routine. I let to much take my attention and fall behind on everything. I also neglect my goals. Not enough water, to much junk food, to many skipped meals, missing exercise all the result of not keeping priorities. I've allowed my blog to fall behind and failed to pursue my weight goals. I could list a number of things that took my time but the fact is I just let them interfere with priorities and neglected the things that need attention. I am weighing in at 233.6# this week and I'm already late for delivering my posts for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I will probably be late with Wednesday as well since I have a meeting in about an hour.

OK, 232.6# is not exactly an improvement but, I have been much more consistent on the exercise. In addition, my wife is more committed to loosing weight as her friends are making similar commitments. As much as we both try not to let each others habits effect our own, it is easier to stay on track when both people are trying. Particularly since, we both try to be nice and share when we make something good, even if it isn’t particularly good for us. The next trick will be to stop eating Ice Cream during the Biggest Loser. Even though it’s a once a week thing it’s still, pretty much, defeating the purpose of the show.
I’m still not so good on the water intake but I am improving. Bottled water and low income equals less water. Since the stuff from our tap isn’t very good, the best bet would be to spend a little extra cash on a filter and spend less on bottled in the future. We say that all the time but it never seems to happen.

I’m weighing in this week at 231.8. With warmer weather I’m walking more and My eating is a bit more on track. Still to many snack foods like Ice Cream but, I’m balancing that some. Water intake is still my week point and I need to correct that.

Weighing in at 234.2# this week. Not much of a loss but, I usually weigh in before getting into the coffee. That way I’m retaining as little as possible for the day. I’ve already gone through half a pot before I got on the scale today. Not the best way to start the day I know but, I’m a caffeine fiend. I also have done a lousy job with my diet this week. Eating to little some days and to much on others, not consistent on breakfast or drinking water. The fact is I’m probably lucky to loose the pound I did.
Like the lesson for the day, I'm not going to reach my potential until I get control of my eating habits.

Did you ever have one of those weeks were bad news just kept coming? I weighed in a couple of days ago after being ill all week with a weight of 230#. This morning the scale says 235.8#. Obviously it’s been a weird week but, I can’t say I’ve entirely gotten my appetite back yet either so this isn’t making much sense. I suppose I will just have to roll with it and expect that next Monday will be equally shocking.
With the weather improving my walking routine will be getting more routine, I’m doing better with the water already and I guess a few days of starvation will confuse the body. Given those factors I will be anxious to see next week’s results.

Well, It took me over 2 and 1/2 hours to get this far and it’s only one days worth of entries. In fact it’s the usual entries for Monday and this is Thursday at almost 11:30. I really don’t feel very good.
Calories have been easy since I couldn’t hold anything down. Hydration was tough at first but it’s such an ingrained habit when I’m recovering from illness that I should do better this week than I have in months. I’m weighing in this week at 230#.

In addition to the problem with my aunt, there is the problem of my weight. While my week had a couple of shortfalls, yesterday was a killer. A fellowship dinner at church, followed by dinner with my family at mom’s house and then more to eat at my mother-in-law’s place. I’m back up to 235.8#. Bummer
The worst part was, multiple deserts at church, and more desert at my mother-in-law’s. Even when you cut your self off at one plate of food, cake+pie+puding+chocolate+more=way to much.

My wife has been craving Ice Cream for weeks and so we have some here. Frankly, I don't like this brand much but, portion control is still a little troublesome with Ice Cream. Even so I have lost some. The water here is getting worse. I guess I need to get a filter or quit rationing the bottled. Weighing in this week at 233.8 pounds. 33.8 pounds left on my goal with an estimated goal time of 17 weeks or less. I should get down to 200 pounds by June 8. By that time I will be out driving the Ice cream truck. Luckily, I don't get tempted much to eat the novelties on my truck. When I do it's normally a low fat, low calorie Popsicle of some sort.
Here's a tip. Flav-O-Ice type freezer pops are very low calorie, portion controlled snacks. You can have one on the points system for free and the sweet flavor is a great way to get past the craving for deserts and high calorie snacks. Their cheap too.
Looking back I see I have cut back on my goal in this post. I should be shooting for 2.5#/week which would get me to my goal at least 5 weeks faster and in better time for the summer.

I am down to 235.6# this week. Not bad considering the Super Bowl snacking. We decided to try the Splenda with fiber. Splenda is a wonderful sweetener without the problems of other artificial sweeteners. It doesn't fool your system or cause complications. It's made from more natural sources. Stevia is also good but most stevia based sweeteners maintain a licorice like flavor from the plant. It's not an offensive taste and can be good in coffee but may interfere with other flavors in foods your trying to sweeten.
The splenda with fiber becomes and extra source of fiber in your diet. Fiber offsets some of the fat and calories in food so additional fiber can help your diet. Benefiber is also nice. I got the chance to try some samples of the Benefiber in my food. It didn't change the flavor or texture of hot or cold food or beverages but added a couple grams of healthy fiber.
Just some info for those, like me, fighting the battle of the bulge.

It was my birthday this week. I avoided cake but was given Cheese Danish for my birthday. It's a weakness of mine. I also am having trouble with the water, primarily because tap water in my house is inconsistent. Fine one day and nasty tasting the next. Bottled water costs so... I am weighing in at 240 pounds. I have about 40 more pounds to lose to reach my goal. Barring complications I average at least 2.5 pounds a week so I have 16 week to my goal and should reach 200 pounds by May 18 which is plenty of time to look good for summer. How are your goals coming?

It's Monday again. I weighed in at 237.4. I have to admit I haven't been good about getting my water but I did get through the week without using to many flex points. About 7 of them actually. If I got the water right I'd probably loose even more. I'll be beck for this one next week.
note for the bible blog:
The timeline is due and I'm working hard to get it right. I noticed a small mistake on one of the birthdates for the last one I published and I want to get this one right. It should be up by the end of the day.

New years Resolutions
I started this blog as a New Year Resolution. I've been through the bible several times in the past and done it in under 11 weeks. This time I am pacing it so that others have a pattern to follow in their resolution. I wanted a place where people could follow a simple plan and study together. I hope that it will lead to our gaining insight from each other.
Another popular and useful resolution is weight loss. Diabetes's is all to common in my wife's family and carrying extra weight isn't helping me deal with my back injury so we have decided to drop the extra pounds together.
I don't want to distract from the bible study but, taking care of our bodies as the temple of God is important so, I hope my updates will encourage others. We are using the Weight Watchers point system. I don't know my wife's goal but mine is to get down to 200 pounds which is a pretty healthy weight for me. The fact is I have already lost about 10 pounds but I started back around Thanksgiving. Holidays are a rough time to lose.
My wife keeps asking what I lost and I haven't told her so let's see how long it takes her to notice these posts. My current weight is 239.8 pounds. for the next couple weeks I'm making things easy on myself. 2 Slimfast type shakes(I like the Wal*Mart equate shakes better for taste) at 4 points a piece, a yogurt averaging 3 points, string cheese for 2 points and "free" veggies. Some vegetable don't have a point value as snacks. Favorites are green bell peppers and carrots. Celery and tomatoes and Lettuce and other salad fixings are also free but the peppers and carrots cut into sticks like fries are an easy and tasty snack. That takes 13 of my 28 points leaving 15 for a big dinner or, a reasonable dinner and snacks with points, like popcorn which I love with a movie.
I'll post on Mondays with my weigh-in because Sundays are when I end up at family dinners or fellowship meals at the church. Saving the flex points to deal with these weekend splurges keeps me on track and I start over on flex points Monday morning. The best part about staying on track is that you don't feel like overdoing it at social functions because your just not used to over eating.
If your on track to lose some pounds I'd love to hear your plans. Maybe the things that work for us will encourage those who aren't doing as well. You might be giving others good Ideas, offering new, light recipes, or just telling us about your success but, any comments could be encouraging.
See you soon,
Carl
